
Mars Hill lands three on All-SAC teams
Senior middle hitter Sally Anne Johnson earned All-SAC Second Team honors while Sarah Goddard and Ully Martins were tabbed as honorable mentions, as released by the league Wednesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson setter Emily Conlin was voted the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Year, while Tusculum outside hitter Emiah Burrowes was named the Conference's Freshman of the Year and Queens head coach Hannah Long was named Coach of the Year, the conference office announced today.
Conlin, a senior from Glendale, Ariz., had a phenomenal season for the Trojans, leading them to a 21-6 overall record. She leads the league in assists with 1,065 and assists per set with 10.54. She ranks in the top-15 in service aces with 34 and digs with 349. She recorded 20 or more assists in 26 of 27 matches this season, including 15 matches with 40-plus assists. She was awarded SAC AstroTurf Volleyball Specialist of the Week honors five times during the 2019 season.
Burrowes, a freshman from Wesley Chapel, N.C., made her presence known in her first year at Tusculum. She ranks third in the league in kills with 320, third in kills per set with 3.53, fifth in points with 353.5 and fourth in points per set with 3.9. She also dished out 10 assists, had 14 services aces, and 212 digs.
Long led the Royals to a 22-5 record overall, going 19-3 in the SAC in 2019. Under her guidance, Queens is currently ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division II Volleyball Southeast Region. Long's Royals finished fourth in the league in kills (1,253), second in kills per set (13.05), second in digs (1,968), second in digs per set (20.50), and second in points per set (17).
Joining Conlin on the first team were Wingate's Sophie Schaff, Rachel Alles, Treslyn Ortiz and Lynnlee Mather, Queens' Casey Tarvin, Lenoir-Rhyne's Taylor Prall, and Carson-Newman's Marnie Streeter.
