MARS HILL, N.C. - Every Wednesday throughout the 2020 fall semester, Mars Hill Athletics will feature and show appreciation to Mars Hill University Faculty and Staff for their support of our student-athletes.
Today, we feature Director of Financial Aid, Nichole Buckner.
Q: How long have you been at MHU?
A: I have worked at MHU since 2006, but was a student from 2003-2006. I have also lived in Madison County my entire life.
Q: What is your favorite sport to watch/attend at MHU?
A: I don't think it's possible to name a favorite sport at MHU. However, basketball and baseball are very dear to family's heart! We do love football as well and have become pretty avid volleyball spectators over the last few years.
Q: What makes the MHU student-athlete special?
A: Our student-athletes at MHU are special for so many reasons. They are not only active athletes, but they are active in the classroom as well as in the community. As a member of the Mars Hill Community, it means a lot to see our athletes out doing things. For example, the lacrosse team picking up trash along the highway, the baseball team volunteering at Mars Hill Elementary for the Fall Festival, the basketball team being big brother mentors to some young boys in our schools, and the list goes on and on.
Q: What do you hope the student-athlete experience is like during their time at MHU?
A: It is my hope that the student-athlete experience at MHU brings these students excitement throughout their time at MHU, while also being pushed both athletically and academically. It is my hope that these students realize how many supporters they have on campus with both faculty and staff. I hope they look into the stands and see their professors and other staff members taking time out to support and cheer them on.
Q: What do you hope the student-athletes take away from their time, as a whole, at MHU?
A: I hope when these student-athletes leave MHU, they look back on their time and see a place that taught them growth and pushed them to be their best both on the field and in the classroom. I hope they recall how much support they had while here and how many people they had in their corner helping and motivating them all along their way.
