MARS HILL, N.C. - Every Wednesday throughout the 2020 fall semester, Mars Hill Athletics will feature and show appreciation to Mars Hill University Faculty and Staff for their support of our student-athletes.
Today, we spotlight Head Men's and Women's Swim Coach, Elle Elder.
Q: How long have you been at MHU?
A: I'm in my second year as Head Coach and Aquatic Director. Was a student here for four years, so technically this is my sixth year at MHU.
Q: Favorite sports to attend/watch at MHU?
A: Well I'm a little biased, but first choice will always be swimming. But other than that, I love attending all sports. One of the perks of my office location is I'm only a few steps away from the court and the field at all times so I like to check in on as many home events as possible.
Q: What makes our student-athletes special?
A: Their ability to balance so many things and be so successful at all of them really sets them apart. They go to class, practice, competitions, and many of them are involved in the community through clubs and other organizations. The time management and discipline it takes to do all of that and still have time to hang out with your friends is amazing.
Q: What do you hope the student-athlete experience is like during their time at MHU?
A: From my time here as a student-athlete, I always felt like MHU was my home and that I was part of this incredible community. MHU gave me the opportunity to reach my highest potential in the pool and the classroom and I hope that our current student-athletes get that experience as well.
Q: What do you hope the student-athletes take away from their time, as a whole, at MHU?
A: I hope they take away a great athletic career and excellent education, but also relationships and skills that will last a lifetime. It amazed me so much after I graduated that even though I graduated from MHU, every time I came back on campus I was welcomed like I never left. So, I hope our athletes leave here knowing they will always have a home at MHU.
