Bears Power Past Mars Hill
The Mars Hill lacrosse team lost 18-8 to Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse action at Moretz Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

HICKORY, N.C.- The Mars Hill lacrosse team lost 18-8 to Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action at Moretz Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Mars Hill drops to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 3-2 and 2-0.
Anthony Malcom scored three goals to lead the Mars Hill offense. Jimmy McBride and Brian Pieklik each had two goals, with Ryan Sage also finding the back of the net. Patrick McMahon made nine saves in 45 minutes of action. Jack Grinewich made two saves in the fourth quarter.
Ned Kaish led Lenoir-Rhyne with five goals. Tyler Kotch, Sam Ashton, Jay Goldsmith and Connor Squires scored two goals each. Ethan Tingler, Mike Hanlon, Tyler Botts, Andrew Patti and Robert Darrow each scored a goal for the Bears. Alex Squires earned the win in goal for L-R.
Goldsmith gave Lenoir-Rhyne an early 2-0 lead with 12:32 to go in the opening quarter, scoring two goals 86 seconds apart. Mars Hill got goals from Sage, Pieklik and McBride for a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored seven goals in the second quarter while keeping Mars Hill off the scoresheet for a 9-3 halftime lead. Malcolm's second goal brought Mars Hill to within 9-4 with 13:32 to go in the third quarter, but the Bears scored six goals to hold a 15-5 lead after three quarters of play. The Bears and Lions each scored three goals in the fourth quarter.
Mars Hill returns to action next Sunday at Meares Stadium and Ammons Family Athletic Center, hosting Catawba at 2 p.m.
