Lacrosse Runs Past Lees-McRae, 19-4
The Lions’ lacrosse team ran past Lees-McRae College 19-4 Wednesday afternoon at Tate Field. Mars Hill improved to 6-6 on the year while the Bobcats remained winless on the season at 0-12.

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lions' lacrosse team ran past Lees-McRae College 19-4 Wednesday afternoon at Tate Field. Mars Hill improved to 6-6 on the year while the Bobcats remained winless on the season at 0-12.
Jimmy McBride and Alex Lipsky led the MHU offense scoring four goal apiece. McBride added an assist while Ryan Sage tallied three goals in the win. Brian Pieklik scored one goal and provided his teammates with two assists in the contest. Patrick McMahon played the initial 30 minutes in goal for the Lions and made five saves. Jack Grinewich played the final 30 minutes in the net and made three saves.
Louis Parks led LMC with two goals. Benjamin Shifflett played all 60 minutes in goal for the Bobcats and made 11 saves.
MHU outshot the Bobcats, 42-21. Mars Hill won the ground ball battle, 29-22 and won 17-27 faceoffs. MHU was 2-3 on extra-man opportunities while LMC was 0-4.
Sage scored the first goal of the game at the 13:03 mark of the first quarter and the Lions never looked back. MHU scored seven unanswered goals in the first frame before LMC outscored the Lions 2-1 in the second quarter to send the teams into the locker room at halftime with MHU enjoying an 8-2 advantage.
Mars Hill outscored the Bobcats 6-1 in the third quarter and 5-1 in the fourth period to make the final tally 19-4 in favor of the visitors. The 19 goals scored was the second best offensive performance this season.
Mars Hill will close out the 2014 regular season by hosting SAC rival Coker College at 2 p.m. on Saturday. It will be Senior Day in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
