MARS HILL, N.C. - An eventful first half ultimately results in 1-1 draw for the Mars Hill men's soccer team as they took on Tusculum at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium Friday evening. Jordan Lennon scored his third goal of the season.
In the 7' minute, Stian Sanner flipped a gorgeous, lofty pass over the heads of two Pioneers' defenders. A speeding Lennon caught up to the ball on a mini-breakaway and chipped it underneath the right crossbar to put the Lions up 1-0 early in the first half.
Midway through the half, the Pioneers would tie the game.
A give and go play between Jonny Winter and Shawn Foster resulted in Winter driving home his second of the season from inside the box.
Sanner had two opportunities late in the first half to give the Lions the advantage. His first was a shot that rung off the crossbar. He followed his rebound up with a shot that dribbled wide of the wide open net.
The scoring would dry up for the rest of the game, but the competitive nature did not.
There were a total of 40 fouls and three yellow cards handed out in the hard fought conference matchup.
The Lions tie was their second of the season and moved them into a tie with Lenoir-Rhyne for third in the SAC. They improve to 4-5-2 (3-4-2 SAC) as Tusculum goes to 1-6-5 (1-3-3 SAC).
Mars Hill will take on Lincoln Memorial Wednesday, October 18 at 3:30 p.m.
