HARROGATE, Tenn. - Stian Sanner's third goal of the season propelled the Mars Hill men's soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial Wednesday evening. The strike marks his first game-winning tally of the year.
Both teams battled in a physical contest that saw the Railsplitters control most of the action. With 1:03 remaining in the contest, Sanner shot the ball at goalkeeper Caio Bergamo, who made the save.
With 1:02 remaining in the contest, Sanner's rebound led Mars Hill to their fifth win of the season. Following up his shot, the senior from Kristiansand, Norway buried it past Bergamo to pick up the important conference victory.
Ben Lucas made four saves in the match for his fourth shutout of the season.
The Lions grab another three valuable points in the standings and improve to 5-5-2 (4-2-2 SAC). Lincoln Memorial falls to 7-3-3 (2-3-3) on the season. Mars Hill continues their unbeaten streak in Harrogate, not dropping a contest against the Railsplitters on the road since 2010.
Sanner and the Lions return to the pitch Saturday, October 21 to take on Newberry. The contest is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
