Lions felled by Chargers on road

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team was defeated in the first road game in program history, 25-5, to Alabama-Huntsville Friday evening.
The Chargers (6-1) stormed out to a 7-0 lead in the first ten minutes of the contest over Mars Hill (1-3). Nicole Federovitch scored three of the first seven tallies, followed by Alanna Carvalho's two markers. Sophia Fiorino and Ava Boethig each chipped in to help Alabama-Huntsville go up by seven. Scout Black scored the first of her three goals to stop the Chargers' offensive attack. Following Black's goal, the Chargers, led by another four goals from Federovitch, would tack on seven more goals to up 14-1 before Black's second goal of the half once again stopped the scoring streak. Carvalho's fourth of the half closed out the scoring with less than a minute remaining, giving Alabama-Huntsville a 15-2 edge after the opening 30 minutes.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the second half with a goal from Rebecca Dallman, but the Lions could not continue the momentum as the Chargers reeled off 10 straight goals. Abbey O'Brien, who potted two goals in the first half, scored three more in the second. Fiorino scored twice in the second frame and Federovitch added her eighth of the contest. Black completed her hat-trick, scoring Mars Hill's fourth goal of the game with 1:50 left in the contest. Olivia Hokanson extended her goal scoring streak to four straight games with eight seconds left in the contest.
Federovitch had nine points (8g, 1a) in the game, scoring on all but one of her shots. O'Brien (5g) and Carvalho (4g, 1a) each had five points. Black scored her goals on five shots and won three draw controls. Leslie Ann Brown made 10 saves to pick up her sixth victory of the season. Alexandria Holleran stopped eight shots in the losing effort.
The Lions face Montevallo on Sunday, March 11 at 1 p.m. in their second road game of the season.
