Women's Track and Field Has Impressive Meet at Berry
MOUNT BERRY, GA. – Freshman Jordan Bair set a new facility record in the pole vault and the Mars Hill women’s track and field team posted a magnificent showing at the Victor Icebreaker Duals hosted by Berry College on Saturday, March 05.
MOUNT BERRY, GA. – Freshman Jordan Bair set a new facility record in the pole vault and the Mars Hill women's track and field team posted a magnificent showing at the Victor Icebreaker Duals hosted by Berry College on Saturday, March 05. Bair jumped a height of 10 feet 2 inches to set a new bar on the pole vault event at the track.
Several runners posted personal bests on the day. Shelby Robinson demolished her old personal best of 19:29 in the 5k by 45 seconds as she was able to cross the finish line in 18:44.
Samantha Burns tackled two new personal bests on the afternoon, collecting new marks in the triple jump (10 meters) and long jump (15 feet 2 inches). Dana Thompson also tallied two new marks as she bested her old hammer throw distance of 31.2 meters by 12 feet (35.31 meters) on the afternoon as well as shot put best, throwing 9.89 meters.
Arriel Smith rounded out the top performers for the Blue and Gold, cementing a new personal-mark in the 400 with a time of 1:01.
Rounding out the top performers for the Lions was Taylor Jordan who broke a 14-year-old school record in the women's javelin throw by an amasing six inches.
"It was an amazing meet for the first outdoor meet of the year", said assistant coach Brad Nagel. "We are right where we want to be and expect more great performances this season."
The Lions will be back in action on March 11-12 as they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to participate in the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
