Lions Ranked 10th Regionally
NEW ORLEANS, LA.-- Mars Hill's women's cross country team is ranked 10th in the Southeast Region in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Week One Poll, which was released Tuesday.

The Lions opened the season by placing third in the Spartanburg Eye Opener and followed with a second-place finish in the Hyder-McMahill Invitational this past Saturday. Jessica Viscusi has led Mars Hill with a pair of top 10 finishes. Last season, MHU placed fourth in the South Atlantic Conference and 14th in the Southeast Region. The Lions were also ranked 10th in the USTFCCCA Preseason Poll.
Viscusi opened the season with a ninth-place finish in the Spartanburg Eye Opener and followed with a sixth-place finish in the Hyder-McMahill Invite. Faith Trammell placed ninth in the Hyder-McMahill Invite and has placed second among MHU runners in both events.
Heidi Hooker, Anje Kidd, Shelby Robinson and Savannah Hulbert have also earned points in races for Mars Hill this season. Trammell, Viscusi, Hooker and Hulbert were all Preseason All-SAC selections.
Mars Hill is ranked third among SAC schools that appear in the poll. Wingate (2nd) and Lenoir-Rhyne (7th) are also ranked.

USTFCCCA rankings are determined subjectively by a single-member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted finish in the NCAA Regional Championships.
The top three teams in the Southeast Regional Championship receive automatic-qualifying bids to the NCAA Championships. This year's Championship race will be held in Spokane, Wash.
Mars Hill will compete in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. this Saturday, Sep. 21 at 9:00 a.m.
