Lions Place 12th in Pre-Region Challenge
CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Mars Hill's women's cross country team placed 12th overall and sixth among Division II teams in the Royals Pre-Region Challenge, held Friday afternoon at McAlpine Creek Park.
CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Mars Hill's women's cross country team placed 12th overall and sixth among Division II teams in the Royals Pre-Region Challenge, held Friday afternoon at McAlpine Creek Park.
The Lions earned 247 points and finished ninth among non-Division I teams. Jessica Viscusi placed 16th among non-Division I runners to lead MHU. Mars Hill placed fourth among South Atlantic Conference schools competing in the meet. The race was held on the same course the Southeast Regional Championship will be held on. Wingate placed first among non-Division I teams in the meet with 43 points. Nearly 250 runners representing 30 schools competed in the meet.

Viscusi finished the 5K race course in 18:15.1 to earn 12 points for Mars Hill. Viscusi's time was the second-fastest time in Mars Hill history to MHU Hall of Fame member Stacy Mark. The junior improved her time from her last 5K on the course by a minute and a half.
Faith Trammell placed second among Lion runners and 44th overall with a time of 19:19.6. Heidi Hooker finished just behind at 19:26.3 to finish 49th.
Rounding out Mars Hill's top five were Shelby Robinson and Anje Kidd. Mars Hill's top five runners ran an average time of 19:32.6.
The Lions will compete in the South Atlantic Conference Championship Saturday, Oct. 26 in Black Mountain, N.C. MHU will be the host school for the meet.
