MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill University Athletic Department announces several renovations that have taken place during the summer of 2019.
Inside Chambers Gymnasium, new flooring has been laid down on the lower level, wrapping from the coach's suites to towards Harrell Pool. In addition, new corporate sponsor Pepsi has placed a brand new vending machine just outside of classroom 128. In the coach's hallway located between the two coach's suites, the walls and doors have been painted with new carpet laid. Carpet was also laid in the new men's lacrosse coaching suite.
The training room saw several renovations and improvements. With the removal of a stud wall and non-loadbearing block wall, the room expanded into the existing football equipment room. This allowed the athletic training facility to be expanded to the existing laundry room. Outlets for rehab equipment were installed, LED recessed lights were added, wall and base cabinets were refinished, the upgraded floor drain assembly adequately drains sink, dishwasher, ice machine and whirlpools, and new coats of paint line the walls.
South Atlantic Conference and Mars Hill Hall of Famer, retired athletic director and former men's basketball coach David Riggins name now adorns the gym floor inside Stanford Arena. At Riggins' retirement ceremony in December, it was announced that the court would be named David Riggins Court.
Both Ponder football practice fields were completely regraded and seeded this summer. Improvements were also made at Belk Field to ensure the athletes had a quality natural grass surface to practice on when they return for the fall.
Coming in late September as part of a new partnership, Pepsi will provide new scoreboards at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and softball's Ponder Field.
