Momentum building with Lions Athletic Club
The Mars Hill Lions' 2019 fall season is off to a great start, both on and off the field.
MARS HILL, N.C. - Dear Followers and Friends of Mars Hill Lions Athletics:
We are off to a great start this Fall! Mars Hill's football team sits tied for first in the South Atlantic Conference following back-to-back wins, including a 21-14 win over UVa-Wise. We have an outstanding group of offensive and defensive players and two of them are South Atlantic Conference Players of the Week, this week. Sophomore quarterback Jimmy Urzua threw for over 400 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for one. Senior linebacker Nigel Bowden recorded a game-high 11 tackles for the Lions to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors.
We recently had tremendous support and a nearly full stadium to kick off the season with our #FillTheHill emphasis. We are getting big crowds and lots of tailgating. We hope that you will join us soon for a game and help us restore our home-field advantage on The Hill. You being in the stands makes a difference.
We have a newly formed Lions Athletic Club. In just a few weeks of being organized the club currently has nearly nine times as many members as last year. And in just two months, more money has been given than was raised during the entire 2018-19 academic year. This money is going directly to the Mars Hill University student-athlete experience.
We have a new Ammons Family Fieldhouse which houses our team and we have a new scoreboard this week in the stadium. The stadium has been worked on over the summer with new features and paint. We are excited about a new era in Lion Athletics.
The Mars Hill volleyball team has won three of their last four matches and currently sits tied for third place in the South Atlantic Conference standings and Senior middle hitter Sally Anne Johnson is the SAC reigning Player of the Week. She recorded a career-high 26 kills versus UVa-Wise to solidify her Player of the Week selection. Johnson knocked down 49 kills and recorded 16 blocks to lead the Lions to a perfect 3-0 week.
We need you! We are determined to put The Hill in the hunt for future championships. We invite you to help us keep the momentum going strong. Join the Lions Athletic Club today!
