SAC postpones Hall of Fame, Annual Meeting due to COVID-19
The 2020 South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame Ceremony and annual league meeting have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The 2020 South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame Ceremony and annual league meeting have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The league meeting and Hall of Fame induction ceremony were scheduled for May 27-29 in Greenville, S.C.
The five incoming members of the SAC Hall of Fame, Mars Hill alumna Stacy Lee Mark Fisk, Tusculum alum Dr. Jarrell NeSmith, Catawba alumna Paige Haverty Stalcup, and Wingate alumna Kerrie Porter Unger, along with the recipient of the Conference's Distinguished Alumni Award, Newberry alum Wendell Davis, will have their induction postponed until June of 2021.
"It was not the decision we wanted to make, but ultimately it is in the best interest for everyone's health and safety," said SAC Commissioner Patrick Britz. "These inductees are outstanding individuals that deserve to be properly recognized for their accomplishments, so we felt it was in everyone's best interest to postpone the induction ceremony until next year."
Also postponed was the SAC's annual meeting, which was to take place in Greenville at the same time. The meetings will now move to a virtual format, with the various committees scheduled to meeting conducting their business via Google Hangouts.
"The SAC annual spring meeting represents one of our Conference's great traditions and provide an opportunity to celebrate the past year, plan for the future and focus on our mission and values," added Britz. "Over the last month of quarantine life, we have learned that we can still have some very productive and informative meetings virtually. We will have each of our committees that normally meets at the annual meeting convene online to recap the 2019-20 season and plan for 2020-21."
The virtual version of the SAC Annual Meeting will take place May 27-29, with various committees meeting over the three-day period.
