Mark named to 2020 SAC Hall of Fame class
Mars Hill alumna Stacy Lee Mark Fisk will be inducted in the South Atlantic Conference's 2020 Hall of Fame Class.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference will induct five members into the 2020 Hall of Fame Class, the League announced today. Receiving honors will be Mars Hill alumna Stacy Lee Mark Fisk, Tusculum alum Dr. Jarrell NeSmith, Catawba alumna Paige Haverty Stalcup, and Wingate alumna Kerrie Porter Unger. The SAC will also honor the recipient of the Conference's Distinguished Alumni Award, which will be awarded to Newbery alum Wendell Davis.
"It is a privilege to add these extraordinary individuals to our already impressive Hall of Fame inductees," said SAC commissioner Patrick Britz. "The SAC is honored to commemorate each of them for their numerous and outstanding accomplishments. They are all shining examples of the rich tradition that the SAC has for both academic and athletic excellence."
Mark, a 2003 graduate of Mars Hill University, was a four-year letter-winner and first team All-SAC in cross country for the Lions. She was named SAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2001 and 2002, as well as being named the SAC Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year in 1999. A four-time SAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, Mark led the Lions to three SAC Women's Cross Country titles (1999-01) and was the NCAA Southeast Region Individual Champion in 2002. She was a three-time All-Southeast Region selection (2000-02), was an NCAA National qualifier if 2000 and 20002, and was named NCAA Southeast Runner of the Year in 2002.
In addition to her prowess on the cross country course, Mark was successful on the track as well, as she was a four-time All-Academic team selection and a two-time all-conference selection. She was a 2003 NCAA National qualifier in the women's steeplechase, was the 2003 conference runner of the year and helped guide the Lions to back-to-back team track & field championships in 2002 and 2003.
Upon graduating from Mars Hill, Mark joined the coaching ranks as the Mars Hill race director and assistant coach for the cross country and track & field programs from 2004-07. During her time as a coach for the Lions she had several all-conference selections, four SAC runners of the year, four SAC scholar-athletes of the year, eight SAC All-Freshman selections, a SAC Runner of the Year, a NCAA Southeast Region Runner of the Year, and helped lead the Lions to the 2006 NCAA Southeast Region team championship.
She continued to compete even after her collegiate career was complete, competing in Ironman Triathlons, Ultramarathons and even hiking the Appalachian Trail. She is an active member of the community and is especially involved with Team Red, White and Blue; a military group that connects veterans, civilians and their families through organized functions.
In 2016, she and her family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where she currently serves are the Race Director for Equinox Marathon and Relays.
The 2020 South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame Banquet is currently scheduled to take place as a part of the Conference's Spring Meetings in Greenville, S.C. May 28, 2020. However, with the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the SAC will continue to monitor the situation and adjust the date if needed.
