MARS HILL, N.C. – During pregame and at halftime of the football game against Wingate there will be three special recognitions taking place. Senior football players, cheerleaders and senior student athlete trainers that cover football will be recognized prior to kickoff. The 2015 Mars Hill Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees and the 1985 SAC-8 Championship football team will be recognized during halftime.
Prior to kickoff Mars Hill will recognized their 18 senior football players, two senior cheerleaders and four student athletic trainers.
At halftime MHU will recognize Craig Eckstein, Kristen Shipley and Dale Similton who will be inducted into the 2015 class of the department's Athletic Hall of Fame. Click here to read about their accomplishments.
The 1985 conference champion football team will also be recognized during the halftime period. The 1985 Lion football team was picked to finish next-to-last in a preseason poll. Instead, the Lions proved that such polls are just predictions and in no way measure the desire and determination of a team. The Lions finished with an 8-3 record, including 6-1 in the SAC-8, and the first-ever outright conference championship in Mars Hill history.
