Limestone Holds Off Lions
Guyton Scores Career High
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Limestone College held off a strong second half comeback by Mars Hill's men's basketball team to hold on to a 89-84 victory at the Timken Center Saturday night. Mars Hill's Daron Guyton scored a career high 30 points in the contest. The Lions fell to 2-5 on the season while the Saints improved to 6-2 on the year.
After the Saints held a 13 point lead (51-38) at the intermission, the Lions outscored Limestone, 46-38 in the final period.
Limestone started the second half on a 15-6 run to take their largest lead of 22 points (66-44) with 14:46 left in regulation after Joe Raga hit a layup. The Lions then went on a 26-8 run of their own during the next 10 minutes of play to trim the deficit to just four points (74-70) after Kevin Haynes hit a shot in the lane.
The Saints would prevail outscoring the Lions 19-14 in the final minutes of play behind Charles Blue who scored seven points in the run.
Following Guyton's 30-point, eight rebound performance, was Khouraichi Thiam who added 11 points and a game high 14 rebounds. Kevin Haynes added 17 points in the loss.
Charles Blue led the Saints with 19 points and seven boards while Joe Raga and Phillip Moultrie added 13 points apiece. Raga and Moultrie pulled down nine and seven rebounds in the contest, respectively.
Mars Hill will host Belmont Abbey on Tuesday, December 18, at 4 p.m.
