Men’s Basketball Loses at LMU
Thiam records his 12th double-double
HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Lions' men's basketball team lost on the road at Lincoln Memorial University, 107-75. Khouraichi Thiam posted his twelfth double-double of the season in scoring and rebounding in the game with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
For the year, Thiam is averaging 13.9 points per game and 11.2 rebounds per contest. Currently, Thiam is fifth in the nation in rebounds per game. Jalen Witherspoon also tallied 18 points off the bench. He added four rebounds. Mars Hill fell to 3-16 overall and 0-11 in the SAC. The Railsplitters improved to 16-3 on the season and 9-2 in the league.
Cam Carden led LMU with 22 points by hitting seven 3-pointers in the win. Jake Troyli followed with 17 points and seven boards while Chance Jones added 14 points and five rebounds. Wally Jones and Keenan Peterson posted 11 points apiece to round out the double-digit scorers for LMU.
In the first half, LMU hit 10-11 three-point attempts and converted 62.9% of their total field goal attempts (22-35) to take a 30-point (58-28) lead into the locker room at the intermission. Cam Carden scored 19 first half points for the Railsplitters connecting on 6-7 shots from behind the arc. Jalen Witherspoon led MHC in scoring in the first period with eight while Khouraichi Thiam added six points and five rebounds for the Lions in the first half.
The Railsplitters jumped out to a 10-point advantage (12-2) to start the contest after Lorenza Ross scored in the paint. An old fashioned 3-point play by James Fields trimmed the Lions' deficit to seven points (19-12) with 11:13 left in the first half but that was as close as MHC would get. LMU outscored the Lions, 39-16 over the next 11 minutes of play in the first half to take a 58-28 lead at the break.
The second half belonged to the Railsplitters. LMU extended their lead to 36 points (72-36) at the 15:52 mark after Troyli hit a jumper. The Lions were not able to overcome such a large deficit and fell on the road, 107-75.
LMU scored 52 points in the paint, 17 second chance points and
received 65 points from their bench.
LMU won the rebound battle, 33-27 and hit 61.6% (45-73) of their
field goals in the game. They converted 72.2% (13-18) of their
3-point shots.
Mars Hill will host Brevard College on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Stanford Arena.
