Lions Place Sixth at Pre-Region Run
CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- The Mars Hill men's cross country placed sixth at the Queens Royals Pre-Region Cross Country Challenge, which was held Friday afternoon at McAlpine Creek Park.
Mars Hill placed second among Division II teams in the race. Freshman Alex Griggs turned in Mars Hill's best performance with a time of 25:21.1 to finish 19th overall. The only Division II team to finish ahead of the Lions was Mount Olive College, which placed fifth. Mars Hill placed first among South Atlantic Conference teams competing in the 21-team race.
Freshman Cesar Reyes turned in a 25:50 time to finish in 36th as the Lions second-best performer. Rounding out Mars Hill's top five were Brady Adcock, Kiel Bollero and Carter Benge.
A strong team performance from top-to-bottom resulted in an average time of 26:00.42 for Mars Hill runners, which eclipsed their previous season-best average time by nearly thirty seconds.
Mars Hill will compete in the South Atlantic Conference Championships in Greeneville, Tenn. on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 9:30 a.m.
