The Mars Hill softball team (4-6) was swept by King (3-3) by scores of 7-3 and 5-1, respectively, Friday afternoon.
BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Mars Hill softball team (4-6) was swept by King (3-3) by scores of 7-3 and 5-1, respectively, Friday afternoon.
GAME ONE: KU 7, MHU 3
The Lions trailed 1-0 after the second inning. Micki Maxson's RBI groundout in the top of the third tied the contest, but King responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the frame off the bat of Lilly Million.
The Tornado added four runs through the fourth and sixth innings, highlighted by Haylee Dye's two-run single in the sixth.
Mars Hill struck twice in the top of the seventh as both Farley Park and Jessica Senn recorded RBI singles.
Katie Todd led the Lions with two hits and runs.
GAME TWO: KU 5, MHU 1
King opened the scoring in the bottom of third, plating two runs. Jessica Senn's RBI single in the top of the fourth cut the Tornado lead in half.
The Tornado's Haylee Dye's two-run double in the bottom of the fourth put King up 4-1. King added another insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to complete the sweep.
Micki Maxson led the Lions with two hits. Kayla Gallagher struck out seven in the complete game.
Mars Hill returns to action on Tuesday, February 20 when they face North Greenville. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
