The Mars Hill softball team (9-15, 0-6 SAC) was swept by Carson-Newman (16-10, 6-0 SAC) by scores of 8-0 and 8-4 Saturday afternoon.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill softball team (9-15, 0-6 SAC) was swept by Carson-Newman (16-10, 6-0 SAC) by scores of 8-0 and 8-4 Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE: C-N 8, MHU 0 - 5 Innings
The Eagles plated five runs over the last two innings to secure the run-rule win.
Leading 2-0 after the third, Macey Hughes' two-run single doubled the Eagles' lead. Hughes later scored off of a RBI groundout.
In the fifth, Trinity Brooks plated Kennady Warder with a single to right center for the Eagles to put the Eagles up by six en route to the win.
Leah Grimes, Maia Sholter, and Katie Todd recorded the Lions' three hits in the game.
GAME TWO: C-N 8, MHU 4
Carson-Newman opened the scoring with three runs in the first two innings, highlighted by Hayden Dye's two-run home run in the bottom of the first.
The Lions cut the deficit down to one with a three-run third inning. Following a Payton Little RBI single up the middle, Maia Sholter scored Little off of a double to left center field. Jessica Senn's sacrifice fly capped the scoring in the frame.
The Eagles responded with two in the bottom of the third off of a Brooklyn Lucero two-run single. In the bottom of the sixth, Brooke Matyasovsky hit a two-run home run to left center to build their lead to five.
Katie Todd plated the last run of the contest in the top of the seventh, reaching on a fielder's choice that allowed Sholter to score.
Sholter led all players with three hits while Little, Leah Grimes, and Zoie Pistel each recorded two hits apiece.
Mars Hill returns home on Wednesday, March 20 when they host Lincoln Memorial at Ponder Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
