MHU Swimming Announces Incoming Class
Mars Hill, N.C.—The Mars Hill swimming teams have announced their 2013 recruiting class, with eight student-athletes set to join the program this fall.
Mars Hill, N.C.—The Mars Hill swimming teams have announced their 2013 recruiting class, with eight student-athletes set to join the program this fall.
The men's team will welcome Kendall Corbett (Rutherfordton, N.C.), Samuel Ransom III (Bethlehem, Ga.), Alandis McGraw (Loganville, Ga.), Michael Norman (Lexington, N.C.), Ryan Martin (Clarkesville, Ga.) and Mladen Senicar (Novi Sad, Serbia). Newcomers to the women's team will be Hannah Hill (Indian Trail, N.C.) and Skyler Adolfi (Cazenovia, N.Y.). These student-athletes will join the Mars Hill swimming program this fall and will be eligible to compete this school-year.
"We have some talented young men and women joining the program this year," stated Lions head coach Teddy Guyer. "They will help with our depth and fill some holes right away."
Corbett attended R-S Central High School where he was coached by Mike Kernodle. He also swam with Sharks Aquatic Club under coach Gray Tedder. Corbett earned all-county and all-conference honors and medaled in both his junior and senior seasons at the NCHSAA State Championships. He has qualified for the North Carolina State Championships and has also made a Sectional cut.
Ransom comes to Mars Hill from Apalachee High School, where he was coached by Luis and Laura Rodas. He also swam for Summer Hill Recreation Club, coached by Chip Holland. Ransom qualified for regional and state meets in his junior and senior seasons. He received the Outstanding Award his junior year and was named the team MVP his senior year. Ransom is an honors student.
McGraw attended Loganville High School and was coached by David Smith. He swam with Gwinnett Aquatics Club, where he was coached by Hugh Convery. McGraw finished 15th in the 200 I.M. at the Georgia 1-5A High School State Championships this past season and broke two school-records. He also qualified for the state meet his junior season.
Norman was coached by Brian Wells while attending North Davidson High School and also swam for Arcadia Swim Club, coached by Laurie Grant. Norman qualified for regionals the past three seasons.
Martin attended Habersham Central High School and was coached by Laura Elsarelli. He swam for the Habersham Rapids club team and was coached there by Anthony Rabern. Martin was a regional and state qualifier and is an honors student.
Senicar attended Gymnasim Jovan Zmaj School. He swam for both the Vojvodina Swimming Club, coached by Igor Beretic, and at Novi Sad Swimming Club, coached by Zoran Milovanovic. Senicar set a new national record in the 50 Free his freshman year. He placed first in the nation in the 100 Free his junior year. In his senior season, Senicar was eighth in the country in the Open category, swimming the 100 Free, and also placed sixth in the 50 Free.
The men's swimming team placed third in the Appalachian Swim Conference last season.
Hill attended Union Academy, where she was coached by Jennifer Love. She was also coached by Bob Peterson at Badfish Aquatics. Hill qualified for regionals and the North Carolina State Championships her senior season. She was captain of her high school team.
Adolfi attended Cazenovia High School and was coached by Kara Milana. Adolfi also swam for the Syracuse Chargers, coached by Josh Smith. Adolfi is an honors student and qualified for sectionals twice. She finished second in the 50 Free both times.
The women's swimming team placed fifth in the Appalachian Swim Conference last season.
The swim teams will open their season Sep. 28 when they host Catawba at 2:00 p.m. in Harrell Pool.
