MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (18-9) fell to Anderson (21-6) in four sets (23-25, 25-13, 20-25, 19-25) Monday night in South Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal action.
A back-and-forth affair saw Anderson pull away late in the frame to take the one set advantage. The Trojans were led by Rylie Sargent's seven kills. Nikkayla Stewart led the Lions with five kills on six swings.
Mars Hill dominated the second set, holding Anderson to a .024 hitting percentage while the Lions hit .324, a match-high. Jana Cuk took control in the final moments of the frame, recording three straight kills and a block for four of the final Mars Hill points. She collected six kills on eight swings.
Anderson regained momentum in the third, hitting .193 with Liliana Kinder's five kills leading the Trojans to taking the third set, 25-20. Sarah Goddard and Grace Lilly led the Lions with four kills apiece.
A spread out Anderson attack ultimately took the Lions down in the fourth, as Kinder, Jaelyn Grimm, and Meg Sansbury each recorded three kills. Cuk and Jada Cannon led the Lions with four kills apiece.
The Trojans had four players with double-digit kills, led by Sargent's 14 on the night. Madison Roy collected a game-high 55 assists while Lindsay McCurley led the team with 24 digs followed by Hannah Neff's 23.
Cuk led the Lions with 14 kills and led all players, hitting .345 on the night. Goddard added 11 kills and 20 digs for the double-double. Jordan Schmucker amassed 45 assists while Laela Jimenez set a career-high with 38 digs.
