Davis nets 23 in 2024 opener against Cavaliers

WISE, Va. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (1-10, 0-4 SAC) was defeated by UVA Wise (7-6, 2-2 SAC) by a score of 99-86 in their 2024 opener on the road.
The Cavaliers shot over 57 percent from the floor in the first half of play, hitting six three-pointers. They carried a 42-39 lead into the second half. Zion Fruster led the team with 10 points, four assists, and three rebounds in the half. Kadyn Dawkins led all players with 15 points in the half followed by six from Marvin Hires.
UVA Wise pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Lions, 57-47, for their seventh win of the season. They hit 62 percent of their shots, going 7-of-12 from beyond the arc. Fruster notched 24 points in the half, hitting all 13 free throw attempts. Lav Cvetkovic added 17 points in the half.
Kory Davis led the Lions with 18 points while Marcus Rodgers added eight points off the bench. Rodgers led the team with five rebounds in the frame.
Fruster led all players with 34 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double. He also led all players with seven assists. Cvetkovic ended the night with 22 points.

The Lions return home on Saturday, January 6 when they host Anderson. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
