Davis sets career-high in shootout versus Coker

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's basketball team (1-12, 0-6 SAC) was defeated by Coker (8-7, 4-3 SAC) by a score of 120-99 Wednesday night.
Coker carried a 68-45 advantage into the half, hitting 58 percent of their shots in the first. Hayden Abdullah went a perfect 7-for-7, hitting all three three-pointers attempted in the half to lead all players with 17 points. Andre Leavell added 12 for the Cobras.
The Lions shot over 53 percent in the frame as the duo of Kory Davis and Kendall Dawkins each netted 15 for the Lions. Derrick Molden, Jr. pulled down a team-high five rebounds and added a team-high four assists.
Mars Hill put up 54 points in the second half, outscoring the Cobras by two. Davis added an additional 17 points en route to setting a career-high 32 points on the night. Dawkins netted nine in the half followed by eight apiece from Marvin Hires and Caleb Mauldin.
AJ Burch led Coker with 10 points in the half followed by nine from Abdullah.
Abdullah led the Cobras with 26 points, going 11-of-12 from the floor. Six other Cobras ended the night in double-digits, highlighted by Demar Anderson's 16 points.
Davis led all players with 32 points. Dawkins shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor and hit all nine free throw attempts for 24 points on the night. Molden, Jr. led all players with seven rebounds while Kendall Davis led the Lions with five assists.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, January 13 when they face Wingate on the road. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
