Lions downed by Eagles

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's basketball team (2-18, 1-12 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (17-5, 10-4 SAC) by a score of 99-72 Wednesday night.
The Eagles led Mars Hill by a score of 45-28 after the first 20 minutes of play. Nick Brenegan led all players with 13 points followed by 12 from Trey Hubbard. John Zhao led the team with six rebounds.
Caleb Mauldin led the Lions with 11 points and four rebounds. Kadyn Dawkins added seven points followed by five from Marcus Rodgers. Derrick Molden, Jr. led the team with three assists.
In the second half, the Eagles shot over 63 percent from the floor and hit 6-of-12 threes. Zhao led the team with 18 points, hitting 7-of-8 shots, including three threes. Jack Browder added 14 points.
The duo of Mauldin and Dawkins scored 12 apiece while Marvin Hires added 10 points in the frame.
Brenegan led all players with 25 points while Zhao completed the double-double, scoring 23 and pulling down 10 rebounds. Browder ended the night with 21 points.
Mauldin led the Lions with a career-high 23 points followed by 19 from Dawkins. Mauldin also led the Lions with seven rebounds.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, February 10 when they take on Lincoln Memorial on the road. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
