Athletic Highlights: March 16 – March 21, 2017
Baseball: The Lions went 2-3 last week. Daniel Vitello, a sophomore outfielder from Hollywood, Fla., led MHU offensively hitting .389 with two RBI and a double. Hunter Merrill (Sr., Pittsford, N.Y.) followed hitting .333 with three RBI and three stolen bases. Jared Mathewson, a left-handed freshman pitcher from Hudson, N.C., went 1-0 on the mound for the Lions pitching 5.0 innings allowing no hits. Troy Hall, a sophomore left-handed pitcher from Greeneville, Tenn., also recorded a 1-0 record on the mound pitching five innings allowing just one hit against King.
Lacrosse: The Lions put five different players in the scoring column against Catawba this past Saturday. Josh Bryers (So., Stoney Creek, Ontario) led the Blue and Gold defense with five groundballs The Lions were 15-of-22 overall from the center "X" in face-offs.
Softball: Taylor Lail (Jr., Conover, N.C.) continued her impressive display of power, blasting her fourth homerun of the season against Newberry College on Saturday, March 18.
Men's Track & Field: Noah Allison (So., Marshall, N.C.) set a new personal best in the 5000-meter race with a stellar time of 15:11.89, eclipsing his old mark (15:25.62) by more than 13 seconds.
Women's Track & Field: Kaleigh Jackson (Jr., Asheboro, N.C.) destroyed her old career best time (19:34.35) in the 5000 meters, cutting an amazing 35 seconds on her way to a new best of 18:59.71.
