MARS HILL, N.C. - Every Tuesday during the 2020 fall semester, a new Mars Hill Alumni Spotlight will be featured on the Mars Hill athletics' website.
This week's spotlight will focus on two-sport athlete and Mars Hill Hall of Famer, Allison Shannonhouse.
Shannonhouse was a member of both the volleyball and basketball teams from 1994-97. During her junior year, she led the nation (all divisions) in digs (740) and was a member of the 1996 South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Regular Season Championship squad. The 740 digs ranks 10th all-time for most during a season prior to the 30-point scoring format that was introduced in 2001.
During her senior year, she was named the SAC Scholar Athlete as well as being named to the GTE Academic All-District Second Team. For back-to-back seasons, she was named a First Team All-SAC honoree.
Shannonhouse is found all throughout the volleyball record book, ranking first and fifth in single season digs (740 & 627) and career digs (2,281). She ranks third all-time in single season kills (432), fourth all-time in career kills (1,292), and fifth all-time in career aces (135).
Shannonhouse was inducted into the Mars Hill Hall of Fame in 2011.
