Football Win 30-27 at North Greenville
Mars Hill’s football team came from behind to defeat North Greenville 30-27 on the road Saturday afternoon at Younts Stadium. For the second straight week Jamel Harbison rushed for over 200 yards to lead the Lions’ offense.
TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Mars Hill's football team came from behind to defeat North Greenville 30-27 on the road Saturday afternoon at Younts Stadium. For the second straight week Jamel Harbison rushed for over 200 yards to lead the Lions' offense. MHU improved to an even 3-3 on the season while the Crusaders took their season record to 4-3.
Harbison rushed for 237 yards on 40 carries and one score averaging 6.2 yards per attempt. Dimitri Holmes caught six passes for 109 yards and one touchdown while Trent Miller threw for 216 yards completing 12-25 passes. Colby Price led Lion defenders with his career high nine tackles, a sack, a pass break-up and stop for loss. Raheam Buxton followed with eight tackles while Jasper Mason added seven. Trey Clark made six tackles and had an interception.
The teams traded field goals in the first quarter before combining for 29 points in the second stanza. NGU led 20-9 with 2:43 left in the half before Miller dove in from a yard out with 17 seconds left before intermission. The Lions' 2-point PAT attempt failed and the teams went into the locker room at halftime with the Crusaders holding a 20-15 advantage.
MHU took the lead for good with 1:54 on the clock in the third quarter when Harbison scampered six yards to put the Lions up 21-20. Miller found Holmes in the endzone on a PAT pass to make the score 23-20 in favor of the visitors.
The teams traded touchdowns in the last period to make the final tally 30-27 in the Lions favor. An impressive defensive stop on the Crusaders last drive was one of the major keys to the win. With 4:43 left in regulation, Miller had a pass intercepted in the endzone. The Crusaders then marched 56 yards on 10 plays to the Lions' 24-yardline. On fourth down with one yard to go for a first down, David Green stuffed Nelson Hughes for no gain as MHU forced North Greenville to turn the ball over on downs with 1:47 on the clock. The Lions ran out the remaining time to leave Tigerville with the victory.
MHU leads the series against the Crusaders, 10-1. The Lions have won the last three meetings. Mars Hill will play at no. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne next Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
