Holmes, Goode Earn DAKTRONICS All-Region Honors

NEWBERRY, S.C.- Two Mars Hill football players were selected to the 2014 DAKTRONICS All-Region teams for Super Region Two. Senior wide receiver Dimitri Holmes was a first team selection, while r junior offensive lineman Denzell Goode was a second team pick.
Holmes, the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and a first team All-SAC wide receiver and second team All-SAC return specialist, caught 50 passes for 782 yards and seven touchdowns. In return duty, Holmes brought back 22 kickoffs for 598 yards and two touchdowns with an average of 24.5 yards per return. He led the league with 78.2 yards per game and led the Lions with 135.5 all-purpose yards per game. Dimitri was the AstroTurf SAC Offensive Player of the Week on September 15 and Special Teams Player of the Week on September 29. Holmes ends his illustrious career as the SAC record holder in career receiving yards (4,231) and career receptions (267). He is third among active NCAA Division II players in receptions as well as receiving yards per game (100.6) and third in receiving yards. This is his second consecutive All-Region selection.
Goode earns All-Region honors for the first time in his Lion career. He was named to the All-SAC first team for the second consecutive season as the Lions finished with the second-best passing attack in the league, averaging 215 yards per game. Mars Hill averaged 190 yards on the ground per game this season as the offensive line opened up holes for 1,000-yard rusher Jamel Harbison.
Carson-Newman running back Andy Hibbett was named the regional Offensive Player of the Year, while Lenoir-Rhyne's Tanner Botts claiming Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) who represent Division II football schools in the region, these players represent some of the finest student-athletes in the Gulf South, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic and South Atlantic Conferences, as well as two independent institutions.
Lenoir-Rhyne led the region with eight total selections, with a region-best five on the first team. Delta State had seven total picks, with four first teamers. North Alabama wasn't far behind them with six selections.
Regional finalist West Georgia had four selections, while Valdosta State - their opposition this weekend in the region final – had two picks. Carson-Newman, Miles and Wingate had three selections apiece.
