Men's Basketball Loses at Anderson
Mars Hill lost to Anderson 59-49 in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action Wednesday night in the Abney Athletic Center.
ANDERSON, S.C. – Mars Hill lost to Anderson 59-49 in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Wednesday night in the Abney Athletic Center. The Lions fell to 7-8 overall and 2-7 in the SAC. The Trojans improved to 8-7 on the season and 4-5 in the league.
Kevin Haynes came off the bench to lead MHU with 13 points and four assists followed by Patrick Monroe with 12 points and five rebounds. Mars Hill received 25 points from their bench. Nick Jackson led Anderson with a game high 22 points hitting six 3-pointers. He added five rebounds. Myson Jones scored 15 points and supplied his teammates with five assists.
The beginning of the first half was very closely played as neither team led by more than four points until Anderson went on a 20-7 run starting at the 11:56 mark to lead 29-12 (-17) with 5:44 left in the first half after Myson Jones hit a jumper. Mars Hill whittled back at the Trojan's lead to trail by six points (25-31) at the break after Kevin Haynes hit a pair of free throws with five seconds left on the clock in the first half of play.
Mars Hill trimmed the deficit to two points (44-42) with 7:54 left in the contest after Brandon McCarter hit a shot from behind the arc but that was as close as the Lions would get. Anderson then outscored MHU 15-7 to finish regulation to give the Trojans a 10-point victory.
Mars Hill will play at Catawba College on Saturday, January 17. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
