Carrigan nets six on road versus Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (2-3) was defeated 15-14 in overtime in non-conference play versus Emmanuel (1-1) Saturday afternoon.
In the final 5:16 of regulation, Emmanuel netted two goals from the sticks of Alex Stull and Allan Velasquez to tie the game at 14 and send it to overtime.
Shamaz Durrant, assisted by Velasquez, completed the Lions' comeback just 31 seconds into overtime.
Zac Carrigan opened the scoring just 34 seconds into the contest with an assist credited to Brandon Beland. Emmanuel responded by scoring three straight and four of the final six goals of the frame to take a 4-3 lead into the second. George Yanssens scored twice for Mars Hill in the first.
The Lions went on a 5-0 run in second frame, bookended by Emmanuel tallies to carry an 8-6 lead into the half. Carrigan and Trevor Kennedy struck twice while Beland added Mars Hill's eighth of the half. Jayson Moorman picked up an assist on Carrigan's hat-trick marker while Yanssens added an assist on Kennedy's first. Justin Lundy assisted on Beland's tally.
Emmanuel outscored Mars Hill 5-4 in the third with five different goal scorers. Just 10 seconds into the second half, Mike Klares scored his first as a Lion on the man advantage. Carrigan added two more goals in the frame and assisted on Klares' goal.
Velasquez led Emmanuel with seven points (4g, 3a) followed by Durrant's five (3g, 2a). Adam Gallop led the team with nine groundballs.
Carrigan paced the Lions' offense with seven points (6g, 1a) while Kennedy (4g) and Beland (1g, 3a) added four points apiece. Yanssens netted two goals and added one assist while Moorman finished with two assists.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, March 6 when they face Anderson in South Atlantic Conference play. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
