Beland nets four versus Catawba

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (3-8, 1-7 SAC) was defeated 16-8 versus Catawba (5-5, 4-3 SAC) Saturday afternoon.
Catawba opened the game on a 3-0 run before the Lions responded with two of their own off the sticks of Trevor Kennedy and Brandon Beland. Matt Mitchell, with 1:34 remaining in the first quarter, netted his first of the game.
Mitchell scored the first four goals of the second, bumping the Catawba lead to 8-2 with 7:30 remaining in the half. Twenty seconds later, Corbett Kolb scored his first of the year from 30 yards out. In the final four minutes of the half, the teams traded one goal apiece with the Indians carrying a 9-4 lead.
Beland netted two of the Lions' three goals in the third. Tucker Fanzo and Trevor Bellotte picked up two assists apiece in the frame. Beland scored the the lone Lions' tally in the fourth.
Mitchell led all players with nine points (7g, 2a) while Fanzo (1g, 3a) and Bellotte (4a) added four points apiece. Beland led the Lions with four goals while Kennedy netted a hat-trick. Kolb added an assist for two points on the day.
The Lions close out their 2021 home schedule on Saturday, April 10 when they host Newberry. Senior Day faceoff is set for 12 p.m.
