Lions rip past Hawks in non-conference play
The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (5-12) defeated Shorter (8-4) by a score of 21-8 Saturday afternoon on the road.

ROME, Ga. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (5-12) defeated Shorter (8-4) by a score of 21-8 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Lions led 5-3 after the first with Brandon Woodward and Zack Gardner-McMinn scoring two goals apiece. Ben Hokenson also struck for the Lions.
In the second, Mars Hill put up six, holding Shorter to just two goals. Woodward netted his third for the hat-trick while George Yanssens scored two. Braden Hoskyn, Cole Ross, and Josh McCallion each scored in the frame.
Ross netted two man-up goals in third as Hokenson also scored with the man advantage. After trading goals in the fourth, Mars Hill ended the contest on a 6-0 run. McCallion scored three in the frame.
Ross led all players with seven points (3g, 4a) followed by four from McCallion (4g) and Woodward (3g, 1a). Steven Smith made 10 saves in the win.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, April 6 when they face Newberry. Faceoff is set for a 5 p.m. start.
