Lions win double OT thriller against Railsplitters
The Mars Hill men’s lacrosse team (5-8, 2-5 SAC) defeated Lincoln Memorial (4-10, 1-7 SAC) by a score of 11-10 in double overtime Wednesday evening inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (5-8, 2-5 SAC) defeated Lincoln Memorial (4-10, 1-7 SAC) by a score of 11-10 in double overtime Wednesday evening inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
After a scoreless first extra period, the Lions struck with just over two minutes to play. Following three clutch saves, including a post-to-post diving effort, from Steven Smith, Josh McCallion tucked home the George Yanssens' feed for the game-winning tally.
Mars Hill opened the game on a 2-0 run before the Railsplitters responded, tying the game at two with under six minutes to play in the first. Austin Stroud and Woodward netted the first two goals of the game while McCallion scored the third of the frame.
Cole Ross and Joey Baumgardt each collected assists in the first.
Tied at three entering the second, the teams scored just one apiece, heading into the half tied at four. Woodward scored his second of the contest.
The Railsplitters outscored Mars Hill 3-2 in the third. Woodward scored both of the Lions' goals. In the fourth, the Railsplitters scored the first two goals to go up 9-6 with 10:22 remaining.
Mars Hill went on a 4-0 run over a span of 3:18 to retake the lead, 10-9, with under five minutes to play. Stroud scored twice in the run while Yanssens and AJ Howland scored the other two goals in the run.
Rhodes Conroy (4g, 2a) led all players with six points. Woodward led the Lions with four points (4g) followed by three from Stroud (3g) and McCallion (2g, 1a).
Smith made 17 saves for the win.
The Lions end their home slate on Saturday, April 13 when they host Anderson on Senior Day. Faceoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
