MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (2-3) was defeated by Montevallo (3-1) by a score of 16-6 Friday afternoon.
The Falcons led 5-3 after the first 15 minutes of play. Tied at three with under two minutes left in the frame, two man-up goals from Montevallo sent the Falcons into the second with the lead. Cole Ross scored twice for the Lions while Josh McCallion netted the other Mars Hill tally. Austin Stroud assisted on two goals.
In the lowest scoring frame, Brandon Woodward scored the lone Lions' marker while Montevallo added two more goals, leading 7-4 at the half.
The Falcons outscored the Lions 9-2 in the second half, holding Mars Hill scoreless in the third and scoring six goals in the fourth.
McCallion and Joey Baumgardt scored the Lions' second half goals.
Jackson Klewchuk led all players with six points (3g, 3a). Ross led the Lions with three points (2g, 1a) while McCallion ended the day with two goals.
Steven Smith made 14 saves in the contest.
Mars Hill opens South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, March 2 when they host Wingate inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. First faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
