Lions open with tough fought draw versus Anderson
The Mars Hill men’s soccer team (0-0-1) opened their 2021 spring campaign with a 1-1 draw versus Anderson (0-0-1) Thursday night inside Meares Stadium.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's soccer team (0-0-1) opened their 2021 spring campaign with a 1-1 draw versus Anderson (0-0-1) Thursday night inside Meares Stadium.
Sebastian Bertilsson broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 62nd minute, taking a feed from Luke Manley and finessing it past Gal Elyashiv to put the Lions up 1-0.
Anderson tied the game as Harry Ward blasted one off the fingertips of an outstretched Brennan Whalen in the 70th minute of play.
The Trojans controlled play in the second half, attempting nine shots to the Lions' one. Anderson also had both overtime attempts.
The Lions held a 5-4 shot advantage at the end of the first half, including two prime opportunities. Fabio Berrer knocked one off the far post early in the half and later in the frame, Ethan Lee's one-on-one opportunity was blocked as he entered the box.
The duo of Elyashiv and Neko Christ combined for one save while Whalen made six saves.
The Lions return to the pitch on Saturday, February 20 when they take on Wingate. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
