Munn named Coach of the Year, three Lions make All-SAC teams
Mars Hill head men's soccer coach Gregg Munn was named the 2021 Men's Soccer Spring Coach of the Year, as announced by the league Wednesday morning. Three Lions were named to All-South Atlantic Conference teams.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Mars Hill head men's soccer coach Gregg Munn was named the 2021 Men's Soccer Spring Coach of the Year, as announced by the league Wednesday morning. Three Lions were named to All-South Atlantic Conference teams.
Munn led the Lions to a 3-2-2 record and an appearance in the conference tournament for the first time since 2017 as a No. 6 seed. He coached the leading point scorer in the league, Sebastian Bertilsson, as well as two-time Defensive Player of the Week, Brennan Whalen. The Lions won their season opener versus Tusculum and later swept Lincoln Memorial, outscoring the Railsplitters 5-1 in their two meetings.
Bertilsson was named as an All-SAC First Team selection, leading the league with 12 points and second in the conference with five goals. His standout performance came against Lincoln Memorial in their first meeting as he scored twice and added one assist.
Jeppe Christensen, for the third year in a row, was named to an All-SAC team, this year breaking through to make All-SAC Second Team. Luke Manley, in his debut season, was named an All-SAC Honorable Mention.
