Mars Hill sophomore goalkeeper Brennan Whalen was named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league Wednesday morning.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Men's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during the first week of the spring season. Carson-Newman midfielder Theo Hardenby Ohrwall was named the offensive player of the week, while Mars Hill goalkeeper Brennan Whalen was named defensive player of the week.
Ohrwall, a freshman from Stockholm, Sweden, led the Eagles to a season-opening 4-1 win over Belmont Abbey last week. He was instrumental in three of the four Carson-Newman goals, scoring two goals and assisting on a third. He finished the game with five points.
Whalen, a sophomore from Cumming, Ga., led the Lions to a 1-1 draw against Anderson in the opening match. He made six saves, including a diving stop in overtime, while allowing just one goal. The six saves marks the second most saves Whalen has made in a single game during his career.
