
Lions set several records at Visit W-S College Kick-Off
Three new school records added after strong performances.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's and women's track and field teams set several records at the Visit W-S College Kick-Off.

Provisional Mark
Jesse Shelton kicked off his second Collegiate Indoor season with a second place finish in Men's Shot Put. Shelton's throw of 17.05m (55' 11.25") provisionally qualifies him for NCAA DII Indoor Nationals. Shelton currently ranks first in the South Atlantic Conference in Shot Put.
School Record
Jesse Shelton followed up his success in shot put with a fourth place finish in men's weight throw. Shelton broke his own school record with a throw of 16.41m (53' 10.25"). Shelton currently ranks first in the South Atlantic Conference in the Weight Throw.
Sprint Crew
60m Open
Five freshmen competed in their first collegiate indoor meet. Hunter Philyaw led the way with a 10th place finish in the men's 60m qualifying round with a time of 7.15. Aiden Burton finished 12th with a time of 7.17. Jesse Magly placed 14th with a time of 7.2 while Justin Kwakye placed 29th with a time of 7.41. Ryder Bush-Ivanko placed 32nd with a time of 7.52.
200m
Jesse Magly placed 11th in the 200m with a time of 23.57s. Justin Kwakye placed 31st with a time of 24.69s.
400m
Connor Cecil placed 25th in the men's 400m with a time of 55.7.
Jump Squad
Long Jump
Jared Benain, Luke New, and Hank Bowen competed in Long Jump. Benain led the way for the Lion's, placing 10th with a jump of 6.62m, New placed 27th with a jump of 6.09m and Bowen placed 37th with a jump of 5.65m
High Jump
Luke New placed 10th in High Jump with a jump of 1.89m
Throws Squad
Shot Put
Jesse Shelton, Ashtin Gainey, and Justus Shelton represented the Lion's in shot put. Gainey placed 10th with a throw of 13.83m, an indoor best for him. Shelton placed 13th with a throw of 13.51m.
Weight Throw
Justus Shelton and Iggy Welch competed in weight throw along with Jesse Shelton. Justus placed 13th in Weight with a PR throw of 13.15m. Welch set a PR with a throw of 10.72m.
Distance Crew
3000m
Braxton Cummings and Sawyer Cripps represented your Lions in the 3000m. Cummings placed 23rd overall with a time of 9:12.03. Cripps placed 30th overall with a time of 9:26.21. Both established new personal bests in the event.
1 Mile
Cummings, Aizen Bell, Cripps, Brett Cram, and Luke Capps all competed in the 1-mile run. Cummings led the way, finishing with a time of 4:45.54. Bell crossed the line right behind Cummings with a time of 4:46.15. Cripps finished with a time of 4:55.42, Cram a time of 5:03.98, and Capps a time of 5:09.13. Bell and Capps both established new personal bests in the event.
5000m
Matthew O'Connor, Charles Fuerneisen, and Eli Taylor all competed in the 5000m run. O'Connor finished in 13th place with a time of 15:54.99. Fuerneisen placed 16th with a time of 6:17.26, and Taylor finished 17th with a time of 16:20.28. O'Connor and Fuerneisen both established new personal bests.

School Records
Lindsey Jenkins set a new school record in the 600m, crushing the old by six seconds. Jenkins finished in a time of 1:45.93.
Natalie Powers came in at a time under the old record, finishing with a time of 1:47.94 and now holds the second fastest time in school history behind Jenkins.
Hurdle and Sprint Crew
Simone Giggetts won her heat in prelims with a time of 7.15 to advance to the finals. Giggetts placed seventh overall in the finals with a time of 7.18.
Lillie Goodman competed in her first collegiate track meet, racing in the 60m hurdles and finishing with a time of 12.47.
Jimena Montero placed 26th in the 60m with a time of 8.7. Montero completed in the 200m sprint as well, placing 33rd with a time of 28.85s.
Jump Squad
Haley Eddinger, in her second year as a pole vaulter, took third with a vault of 3.05m. Eddinger matched her indoor personal best.
Alina Mueller, Amaya Casiano, and Maya Adams took to the Long Jump runway. Mueller placed 21st overall with a jump of 4.93m. Casiano placed 31st with a jump of 4.61m, and Adams placed 41st with a jump 4.16m.
Throws Squad
Miya Blake was the lone thrower for the Lions in today's meet. Blake placed 25th overall with a throw of 9.84m.
Distance Crew
3000m
Grace Adams, Natalie Powers, Mary Malcolm, and Hannah Frazer represented the Lions in 3000m run. All four established new personal bests. Adams led the way, placing 28th with a time of 11:03.68. Powers placed 31st with a time of 11:08.48. Malcolm placed 32nd with a time of 11:09.23. Frazer placed 33rd with a time of 11:10.69.
800m
Sarah McNeil set a new personal record in the 800m run with a time of 2:45.02. Payton Laney finished with a time of 2:53.2, and Jenna Grabowski finished with a time of 3:02.12.
1 Mile Run
Adams, Frazer, Malcolm, McNeill, and Fernanda Osuna all raced in the 1 mile. Adams led the way with a time of 5:39.38, placing 16th overall. Frazer placed 17th with a time of 5:43.25. Malcolm placed 18th with a time of 5:45.46. Osuna placed 24th with a time of 5:59.93, and McNeil placed 28th with a time of 6:12.58. Adams, Frazer, Osuna, and McNeill all set new personal bests.

Message from Coach Clarke: "The first whole-team meet of the semester went very well for many on the squad – A Provisional Qualifying mark met, a new school record, and several personal records established for the Lions. Overall, the meet was a solid start to the Indoor season."
The Lions head into Winter Break and will pick up with the remainder of the Indoor season beginning in January.
