Mars Hill competes at Tennessee Invite
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team traveled to Knoxville, Tennessee to compete in the Tennessee Invite hosted by The University of Tennessee. The two-day meet was packed full of exciting performances by athletes from all NCAA Divisions and the NAIA. Thirteen Lions competed against some of the best in the Nation.
Meet Highlights:
In the Field
Jesse Shelton placed second in Shot Put with a mark of 17.71m. With this throw, Shelton set a new outdoor school record, and currently ranks sixth in NCAA Division II. Shelton ranks first in South Atlantic Conference standings. He placed fifth overall in Discus with a new personal best 53.82m, a new school record throw and ranks him 11th in NCAA DII.
Will Wainwright placed seventh overall in Javelin with a throw of 57.27m. Wainwright ranks first in South Atlantic Conference standings. Wainwright competed in Discus as well, placing 19th overall with a throw of 40.84m.
Lucas New placed ninth in Pole Vault with a vault of 4.01m.
Jared Benain placed 19th in Long Jump with a jump of 6.66m.
Justus Shelton threw a season best 42.02m in the Discus, placing 18th overall. Shelton placed 16th in Javelin with a throw of 46.13m.
Ashtin Gainey placed 16th in Shot Put with a put of 13.86m.
On the Track
Malik Laurent sprinted to a new personal best 10.74s in the 100m. Laurent placed 24th overall.
Hunter Philyaw placed 29th in the 100m with a time of 10.85s. Philyaw competed in the 200m sprint as well, finishing with a personal best 22.38s.
Levi Hill placed 21st in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.9s.
Charles Fuerneisen ran a personal best 4:13.64 in the 1500m run. Fuerneisen placed 37th overall.
Sean Sanchez, Eli Taylor, and Matthew O'Connor all competed in the 5000m run. Sanchez led the way for the Lion's with a time of 15:35.57, placing 18th overall out of forty competitors. Taylor placed 24th with a time of 15:51.41, and O'Connor placed 27th with a time of 15:54.84.

The Lions travel a short distance down the road to UNC-Asheville to compete in the Bulldog Invitational this coming Friday-Saturday, April 11th-12th.
