
Lions round out regular season at JDL Last Chance Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Mars Hill indoor track & field teams traveled to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to compete in the JDL Last Chance Meet hosted by JDL Fast Track. The meet served as a last chance qualifier for several Lions attempting to qualify for next weekend's SAC Indoor Conference Championship Meet. For others, the meet served as a tune up to prepare for the Championship.
Highlights from the men's side:
Hunter Philyaw won his heat in the prelims of the 60m with a personal best 7.09s. Philyaw qualified for the finals, placing 7th overall with a second personal best on the day, 7.04s.
Ryder Bush-Ivanko set a new personal best in the 60m dash with a time of 7.35s.
Jesse Shelton placed 1st in Shot Put with a throw of 16.53m. Shelton placed 3rd in the Weight Throw with a mark of 15.28m.
Makhi Edgecombe established a new personal best in Shot put with a throw of 12.23m. Edgecombe placed 12th overall.
Ashtin Gainey placed 6th in Shot Put with a throw of 14.22m.
Jaidyn Hicks established a personal best in Long Jump with a jump of 5.56m
Sean Sanchez set a new personal best in the Mile with a time of 4:32.79.
Charles Fuerneisen set a new personal best in the Mile with a time of 4:34.27.
Matthew O'Connor set a new personal best in the Mile with a time of 4:35.05.
Brandon McNulty set a new personal best in the Mile with a time of 4:35.87.
Eli Taylor set a new personal best in the Mile with a time of 4:36.07.

Highlights from the women's side:
Sophie Ratcliff continued to change the record books as she broke her own Indoor Mile record, finishing with a time of 5:09.51. Ratcliff finished 6th overall.
Haley Eddinger placed 3rd in Pole Vault with a vault of 3.3m.
Amaya Casiano set a new Indoor best in Long Jump with a jump of 4.68m. Casiano placed 13th overall.
Kayla Rice placed 6th overall in the Weight Throw with a throw of 11.25m.
Natalee Powers placed 7th in the 800m run with a time of 2:24.20.
Simone Giggetts set a new personal best in the 60m dash with a time of 8.55s.
Next up, the Lion's compete in the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships this coming weekend, Saturday, March 2nd – Sunday, March 3rd back at JDL Fast Track. Thirty-Six Lions will make the trip this year to represent The Hill.
