Men's Cross Country Looks to Defend Regional Crown
Mars Hill looks to defend its 2014 Southeast Region title
MARS HILL, N.C.- The Mars Hill men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the 2015 Southeast Regional meet on Saturday morning at Wingate University.
The men's team enters the meet as the defending champion after the Lions claimed the regional crown in Montevallo, Ala last season, which also sent them to the NCAA national meet. The Lions won the race with a total of 76 points and return two of the top six finishers from that meet in Alex Griggs (4th place ) and Nathan Jones (6th place).
Griggs claimed the 2015 South Atlantic Conference title and Runner of the Year honors after winning the SAC Championship two weeks ago. Saturday won't be his first visit to the Wingate this season as he won the Bulldog Stampede on September 26. The Lions head to tomorrow's meet with three first team All-SAC runners in Griggs, Jones and Cesar Reyes.
Action begins tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. with the women's 6k race followed by the men's 10k run at 11:45 a.m.
