BLUEFIELD, W. Va. - The Mars Hill softball team (10-9) swept Bluefield State (0-4) Sunday afternoon by scores of 22-0 and 12-0.
GAME ONE: MHU 22, BSC 0
The Lions' offense exploded for 22 runs, setting a new school record.
Ashley Evans went 4-for-4, including a grand slam in the top of the third to put the Lions up 12-0. She drove in six runs and scored four herself, tying a school record.
Maggie Langheim was also perfect from the plate, going 4-for-4, including a solo home run after Evans' grand slam, and driving in three.
Alicia Wittenhagen and Kenley Powell each hit a two-run home run in the contest. Ashley Hamlin recorded three RBI while Maegan Blair posted two.
Marissa Adame struck out six in three innings of work for the win. Ashley Collins struck out three in two innings pitched.
GAME TWO: MHU 12, BSC 0
The offense continued to thrive in game two, outscoring the Big Blue 12-0.
Alicia Wittenhagen went 2-for-2, including a three-run home run and collected a game-high five RBI. Ashley Hamlin and Sydney Craig each drove in two apiece.
Kayla Gallagher recorded all six outs by strikeouts.
