MARS HILL, N.C. – Sophia Devesa has been named assistant softball coach for the 2022 season.
"I'd like to thank head coach Scott Long and Director of Athletics Rick Baker for this opportunity," Devesa said. "I'm very excited to be a part of the Mars Hill family."
Devesa joins the Lions after serving as a graduate assistant coach with Florida National University the past two seasons. She helped lead the Conquistadors to becoming the 2021 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Champions as the team compiled a 28-13 overall record. While at FNU, Devesa was responsible for coordinating and running practices, scouting opposing teams, and administrative work such as planning schedules, advising student-athletes, and game day preparations.
Devesa spent a year with the Gradum Baseball/Softball Facility providing lessons and marketing the sport, building the client base by over two dozen athletes.
Devesa played her collegiate softball between Nova Southeastern University and Lynn University, graduating from Lynn in 2019. While at Nova Southeastern, she appeared in 45 games as a starting infielder with a .982 fielding percentage. With Lynn, the starting first baseman appeared in 111 games with a career fielding percentage of .980.
"I've played at the Division II level, so it is nice to be back and be able to share my experiences with the team and student-athletes to come," Devesa said. "I'm ready to help Coach Long take this program far and make a statement."
