Lions sweep Coker in SAC series
Mars Hill puts up back-to-back 11-run efforts in SAC series win.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (12-14, 3-5 SAC) swept Coker (7-17, 0-6 SAC) Friday afternoon with both games ending in five innings. The Lions took game one by a score of 11-3 and game two by a score of 11-2.
GAME ONE: MHU 11, COK 3 - 5 Innings
The Lions were fueled by an eight-run third inning in their game one victory.
Entering the frame trailing 3-0, Mars Hill reeled off 11 unanswered runs between the third and fourth innings. In the third, both Daci Sarver and Bri Weimer collected two RBI apiece. Jessica Senn put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth, blasting a three-run home run.
Weimer, Sarver, and Senn led all players with two hits apiece while Senn led all players with four RBI.
Téa Cornett secured her ninth win of the season, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out three.
GAME TWO: MHU 11, COK 2 - 5 Innings
Mars Hill followed up their emphatic offensive performance from game one with another 11 runs in game two.
Riley Waters' two-run triple was the highlight of the Lions' four-run first inning. After a Daci Sarver RBI single in the second pu the Lions up 5-2, Mars Hill plated another four in the third, all from the long ball.
Farley Park launched a solo shot to left center while later in the inning, Sydney Hodges skyed a three-run home run over the left center field fence.
Walking off the game in the bottom of the fifth was Linde Cline with a two-run home run.
Park and Hodges led all players with two hits and three RBI apiece.
Blyth Freeman earned her third win of the season, allowing just two earned runs on four hits while striking out three.
The Lions return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 18 when they square off against Limestone on the road. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
