Mars Hill splits with Anderson
ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (21-19, 11-9 SAC) split with Anderson (23-19, 8-10 SAC), dropping game one by a score of 2-1, but taking game two, 8-4.
GAME ONE: AU 2, MHU 1
A two-run fifth inning proved to be enough for Anderson to take game one. Maggie Nauck's solo home run opened the scoring after four scoreless frames. Later in the inning, Jenna Davis plated the game-winning run with a RBI single to left center field, scoring Kadence Barrick.
In the top of the sixth, Maia Sholter hammered a solo home run to left center, cutting the Trojans' lead in half.
Sholter, Bri Weimer, Brooke Hanson, Farley Park, and Camryn Sterling each recorded a hit for the Lions.
GAME TWO: MHU 8, AU 4
Two four-run innings led the Lions to their game two win, earning the series split.
The Lions led 4-0 after the third inning, highlighted by Leah Grimes' RBI single, scoring Sara Rexrode.
In the top of the fifth, Brooke Hanson smashed a grand slam, boosting the Lions' lead to eight. In the bottom of the frame, the Trojans fought off the early innings win for Mars Hill, plating two.
Both Lauren Brakovec and Kadence Barrick, in the bottom of the seventh, recorded RBI singles, but Rebekah Howard was able to shut down the rally, clinching the win for Mars Hill.
Farley Park went a perfect 4-for-4 on the day while Hanson added three hits. She led all players with four RBI.
Téa Cornett earned her 12th win of the season, throwing four scoreless frames, allowing just three hits.
The Lions take on the South Atlantic Conference leading Wingate Bulldogs on Saturday, April 12 on the road. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
