MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (3-0-1) drew with Young Harris (1-1-3) by a score of 1-1 Wednesday evening in non-conference play.
Zoie Steinkamp netted her first of the season in the 16th minute of play, blasting a shot from the top of the box past the Mountain Lions goalkeeper. Mars Hill outshot Young Harris 9-5 in the first half of play.
The roles reversed in the second as Young Harris dominated possession in the second half, outshooting Mars Hill 7-4. Alexis Scarpinato took advantage of a bouncing ball in the Mars Hill half to score her second of the year and first goal on the Mars Hill defense all season.
Scarpinato led all players with five shots while the duo of Steinkamp and Marianne Ross led the Lions with three shots apiece.
McKenna Peaster made six saves in the draw. Both Camryn Miller and Megan D'Amore played 45 minutes, making one save apiece.
The Lions return to South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, September 20 when they travel to face Tusculum. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
