MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (4-4-5) drew 0-0 with Tampa (4-3-5) Thursday evening inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
An errant handball in the Lions' defensive zone awarded Tampa their first penalty kick of the season in the 35th minute. Sofia Karlholm's shot was saved by Camryn Miller in the most pivotal moment of the contest.
The shot was targeted low to Miller's left, inside the far post. Miller read the shot perfectly, leaning left as Karlholm approached the ball, punching out the ball emphatically to keep the game scoreless.
Tampa went on to outshoot Mars Hill 28-11, with only six attempts on target. The Lions peppered Aidan Smith with eight shots, unable to sneak one by the Tampa keeper.
The trio of Zoie Steinkamp, Carla Humera, and Chloe Halis recorded two shots apiece for the Lions to lead the team.
Miller made six saves for her sixth shutout of the season.
Mars Hill hosts Bluefield State on Monday, October 24 at 3:30 p.m. inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium in non-conference play.
