
Mars Hill sweeps Senior Day meet
The Lions won all but one race in dominant Senior Day meet versus Piedmont & Warren Wilson.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's and women's swim teams defeated both Piedmont and Warren Wilson in their Senior Day meet on Saturday, January 25.
The Lions won all but one race in their final home meet of the 2024-25 season.
MEN'S RESULTS: MHU 171.00, WWC 18.00; MHU 158.50, PU 46.50
The group of Jakub Szpaler, David Komljenovic, Juan Garcia, and Evangelos Daniil took the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:38.08.
In the 1,000 yard freestyle, Andres Bodington won with a time of 9:43.30. Juan Moncada placed second with a time of 9:56.24. Bodington also won the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:59.27. Nicolas Gomez placed second with a time of 2:06.13.
Bodington continued his winning ways, claiming the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:46.47.
Mars Hill took the top three spots in the 200 yard freestyle with Luka Jankovic claiming first. He turned in a time of 1:44.39, followed by Komljenovic and Garcia. They also had the top three finishers in the 100 yard freestyle with Jankovic also taking first. Moncada and Gomez placed second and third, respectively.
Daniil won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.79 while Ronin Pettit placed second with a time of 22.54. Garcia won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 52.48 while Rodrigo Leon placed second with a time of 53.26.
In the 100 yard backstroke, Szpaler won with a time of 51.72. Leon placed second. Pettit took the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:01.10.
Closing out the sweep, Leon, Jankovic, Szpaler, and Daniil took the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:27.50.

WOMEN'S RESULTS: MHU 133.00, WWC 51.00; MHU 116.00, PU 75.00
The group of Maggie Anders, Maria Arrabal, Sofia Ospina, and Cassidy Hull opened the meet with a win in the 200 yard medley relay, swimming a time of 1:58.17.
Anders, in the 1,000 yard freestyle, claimed the top spot with a time of 11:53.25, nearly a 20-second gap over second place. Ospina won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.61.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Maria Jose Orozco won with a time of 25.16. Orozco also won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.12.
Catalina Portilla won the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:19.40, nearly 14-seconds faster than second place. She also won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 57.68, the only sub one-minute time of the race.
Ospina returned later to win the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:41.05 while, in the 100 yard breaststroke, Arrabal won with a time of 1:11.46.
The team closed out their impressive meet with a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay comprised of Arrabal, Orozco, Portilla, and Anders. They swam a time of 1:46.67.
